Yes. If Trent Jr. were older than Carter Jr., we might feel differently. It would be senseless for the Magic to move a potential future piece in a bid to improve their roster construction alone. That isn’t what’s happening here – both of these players are 23. 

Trent Jr. just happens to fit with their program more neatly. Between Jalen Suggs, Cole Anthony, and Markelle Fultz, the Magic have a glut of talented guards who are subpar floor spacers. By contrast, Trent Jr. is a strong shooter who doesn’t need the ball. 

Meanwhile, this deal cleans up a log jam at center too. The Magic can move forward with Mo Bamba and Bol Bol.
