Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal 

For the Raptors, this deal is partly about buying time. 

At 13-18, the Raptors have been disappointing in 2022-23. Still, it’s not all gloom and doom north of the border. Scottie Barnes continues to flash star potential. 

This deal is meant to benefit him in two ways. Firstly, Barnes has a lot of functional overlap with Siakam. This deal clears the runway for him to be the primary ball-handler. 

It also brings in a player who fills a position of need for Toronto. Adebayo’s versatile brand of defense ought to give the Raptors a needed wrinkle; in their wing-heavy rotation.
