With that said, a team could have that young superstar, and still be in the running for Wembanyama or Henderson. 

Chalk that up to youth. As exciting as young, talented NBA players are, they don’t usually contribute much to winning. It’s just not easy to do so when you’re competing with more experienced players. 

The Houston Rockets know this too well. Jalen Green has flashed obvious superstar potential, but he’s not there yet. He’s as inconsistent as you’d expect a volume-scoring sophomore guard to be. 

Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been even worse this year. Granted, Ball has missed much of the season with an injury.

Still, this is a team with a cornerstone player that remains near the bottom of the league’s standings.
