It’s hard to name the most important position in NBA basketball. It varies by team. Still, if you had to name one position, you might say the point guard.
After all, point guards are the ones who stir the drink. On the other hand, the modern point guard is often expected to call his own number as often as he looks for his teammates.
That doesn’t make the position any less important. Realistically, point guards who are a threat to score and pass are among the best in the NBA.
The Miami Heat don’t have a player that fits that description. Kyle Lowry used to, but it’s pretty evident that he’s past his prime in 2022-23.
If they want to contend this season, they may need to replace him.
Could they do so by sending him to his old team?
