Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
We already told you why the Jazz do this deal. They’re supposed to be tanking.
That’s not an easy job with so many quality players on the roster. In all likelihood, we assumed the Jazz would struggle without a star player this season. Instead, they’re winning with everything the Lakers lack – floor spacing and depth.
At the same time, they’re not winning enough. The Jazz may be a surprise at 12-11, but they’re far from title contenders. This deal is about helping them avoid the league’s dreaded mediocrity treadmill.
Following this deal, the Jazz ought to bottom out. After a surprisingly competitive start to the season, that will sting. On the other hand, a little bit of lottery luck would certainly soften the blow.
