Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
In some respects, this deal is all about Simmons.
As a non-shooting lead ball-handler, Simmons presents complications for his squad. He needs the dunker spot in half-court sets. Lately, the Nets have been resorting to playing him at the 5 as a result.
At the same time, Simmons has never really played with a 5 that suits him. Sure, Joel Embiid can shoot, but he’s most impactful in that same dunker spot.
By contrast, Myles Turner could be a perfect fit.

After all, he opts to line up behind the arc in half-court sets. He shoots pretty well from there, too. More broadly, the Nets could use his combination of floor spacing and rim protection as much as any team in the NBA.
