Russell may not be as talented as Irving, but don’t sell his abilities short. 

There was a time when he was regarded as a comparable talent. In fact, when Russell was selected in the lottery, nobody batted an eye. He was widely understood to be the kind of talent you use a lottery pick on. 

Whether he’s been worth it is up for debate. Ironically, Russell had his best season as a member of the Brooklyn Nets.

During his time there, he was a low-level star – but a star nonetheless.

It’d be hard to give him that title in 2022-23. In fact, Russell has been struggling as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves. With that said, they’ve been a team that has generally looked dysfunctional this season. 

This, of course, makes adding Kyrie Irving quite the gamble. Is it worth the risk?
