Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal 

We effectively already told you why the Mavericks would do this deal. 

A stretch big man who doesn’t limit their defense would be very valuable here. That’s Turner. he’s a solid floor spacer and an elite rim protector in this league. 

In fact, his elite rim protection may allow the Mavericks to get away with more Wood minutes. Putting him at the 4 while Turner is at the 5 could give the Mavericks some effective five-out spacing units. 

The Mavs clearly value floor spacing at the 5: that’s why they have Wood. They clearly value rim protection: that’s why they have Javale McGee.

Why not target a player who gives them both at the same time? 

Of course, that leads to another question. Why would the Pacers part with such a valuable player?
