Why The Los Angeles Clippers Do The Deal 

Thompson has not looked like the player he used to be in 2022-23. Perhaps that’s got as much to do with their struggles as anything else. 

Nobody should blame him. Thompson is coming off of two injuries that have destroyed careers before. With that said, he could still do more for this Clippers team than either of the players they’re parting with here. 

After all, the Clippers already have Nic Batum. He’s roughly as impactful as Covington. Meanwhile, they don’t especially need Powell’s shot creation with Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and John Wall on their roster. 

By contrast, Thompson’s 3-and-D skillset should complement those offensive stars. Furthermore, he’s a veteran with championship experience – something only Leonard has on this current roster.

Acquiring him would be a good decision – even if it causes people to question their perception of reality.
