With that said, saying goodbye to Thompson wouldn’t be easy. 

In all likelihood, most Warriors fans expect him to retire with the organization.  The front office, and Thompson himself, may have similar expectations. After all, he’s been an integral part of a dynastic run for the Warriors. 

They don’t call Thompson and Steph Curry the Splash Brothers for no good reason. There is a familial bond here. In fact, moving Thompson may lead Warriors fans to ask some questions. 

Question like: have I been in a coma? Have the past several years of my life been a dream? This is not how this is supposed to look.

On the other hand, NBA front offices can’t always afford to be sentimental. If the Warriors need to move Thompson, they should do what they need to do.
