Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
The Mavericks already made an acquisition to get Doncic some offensive help in the frontcourt this summer. Christian Wood was probably supposed to be his co-star to some extent.
Harris is similar. He’s also better. In particular, he’s not a defensive liability. Moreover, he’s a more consistent shot creator as well.
Plus, who’s to say they can’t co-exist? Lineups featuring Wood at the 5 with Harris at the 4 won’t be defensively strong, but offensively, they’ll be potent.
All told, there will be room in this team’s rotation for both.

The Mavericks will miss Finney-Smith on the defensive end. That’s still a lower-order priority than adding some offensive punch. This deal should make them better in 2022-23.
Can we say the same for the Sixers?
