They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. We feel a little guilty applying that cliche to NBA players. After all, they’re human beings.

At the same time, the cliche applies. One team’s bad contract is another team’s vital piece. 

Frankly, it all comes down to circumstance. Some teams have different needs than others. For example, the Dallas Mavericks could badly use a player who could serve as a second option behind Luka Doncic.

By contrast, it’s hard to say what the Philadelphia 76ers need. Perhaps they just need more time together.
