Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
Firstly, it should be said that the Nets can’t make this trade until January 15th. That’s when the trade restriction on the recently extended Anfernee Simons is lifted.
If they’re still struggling by then, and Durant is still on the roster, they should seriously entertain it. In fact, it might be as good as they’re going to do for Durant.
Since the Nets owe their draft capital to the Houston Rockets, whether outright or via swap through to 2027, many have suggested that they can’t afford to bottom out. Jusuf Nurkic is a solid veteran big man who helps in that regard.
Anfernee Simons helps even more. He’s broken out as a borderline star, and he’s young enough to make substantial improvements. Yet, the real jewel of this deal may be Shaedon Sharpe. His potential is boundless.

Adding two young, enticing prospects in addition to three first-round picks and a swap would be quite the haul. The Nets surely didn’t enter this season hoping to trade Durant, but if their hand is forced, this is the type of return they should hope for.
In a few years, this trade could be the type of event nobody can forget.
