Why The Cleveland Cavaliers Do The Deal
From an emotional perspective, this would be a tough deal for the Cavs to make. In terms of basketball, it’s a no-brainer.
We’re not saying that Love has no use for the Cavaliers. His ability to pilot the second unit is valuable. We’re merely saying that the Cavs have more pressing needs than a sixth man.
Specifically, they need to improve their wing depth. This deal has them doing so. O’Neale would likely slide in as the starting small forward from day one. Meanwhile, the Cavs could surely find some minutes for the sweet-shooting Joe Harris as well.
Moreover, this deal allows them to move Caris LeVert into that same sixth-man role. As a shot creator, he’s probably more suited for that role than he is for starting duties.
