Why The Sacramento Kings Do The Deal
This is not a no-brainer for the Kings.
As constructed, they’re built around De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. Fox is connecting from long distance this season but hasn’t traditionally been a floor spacer. Meanwhile, Sabonis remains a non-factor from distance. Is this the right situation for Simmons?
Arguably, it isn’t. At the same time, if we assume Fox’s three-point shooting is for real, this deal may be worth the Kings’ time. If nothing else, it’s a pure talent upgrade.
Furthermore, the Kings may not have championship aspirations in 2022-23. After missing an all-time worst 16 straight playoff trips, they merely need a postseason appearance.
