If you’re in business, there are some fundamental goals you share with any other business people. You want to buy low and sell high. The NBA is a big business.
Each of its general managers, by that logic, is a businessperson. They share the same goals as anybody else who’s trying to turn a profit.
Of course, general managers don’t move oil or gold. They move basketball players. If a player’s value has hit an all-time low, it’s generally not advised to trade them.
On the other hand, sometimes, a general manager’s hands are tied. If they’re trying to win games, and a player is impeding that goal, they may have to move them even if their value has imploded.
