It feels like ages ago, but it wasn’t. To begin the 2019-20 season, James Harden was in a Rockets uniform. Unfortunately for the organization, he didn’t seem happy to be there. Eventually, he’d demand a trade.
The Rockets had options. Ben Simmons seemed to be on the table, and Jaylen Brown and Michael Porter Jr. may have been as well. The Rockets could have grabbed a young, low-level star player and moved forward.
Instead, they took drastic measures, trading Harden for little more than a surplus of draft capital.

With that in mind, having started 2022-23 at 1-9, the Rockets may be further behind in their rebuilding process than they’d hoped.
