Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
With that being said, much of the rationale here has to do with the differences between James and Durant.
James is a capable three-point shooter, but he’s not in Durant’s league. Meanwhile, he’s a better playmaker – surrounding him with shooting is key. Durant’s elite shooting means that building a roster around him affords a team more flexibility.
That makes him a better fit alongside Davis than James. Moreover, Davis doesn’t bring the same baggage as Irving. He does tend to get injured, but at least the Nets can feel confident that if he’s healthy, he’ll be on the floor.
If there’s a snag for the Nets here, it’s Davis’ fit with Ben Simmons. Fine – move Simmons.
