Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal
Everyone knew the Hornets were missing a big man this summer. They acquired one by drafting Mark Williams with the 15th pick in the draft.
Williams has potential, but he’s obviously not ready. In fact, he hardly sees the floor in Buzz City. Why shouldn’t the Hornets go get the best veteran in his mold in the NBA?
To say that Gobert fills a void for the Hornets would be an understatement. It would be interesting to see how his pick-and-roll finishing opened up LaMelo Ball’s game in half-court sets. More importantly, he cleans up what’s been a porous defense for the better part of two seasons.
If there’s a downside for the Hornets here, it’s that landing Gobert probably takes them out of the running for Victor Wembanyama.

Even if big men don’t typically dominate the NBA anymore.
