Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
For what it’s worth, the Jazz don’t have to trade Sexton.
Firstly, given his limited playing time, he can only claim so much responsibility for their successful start. Moreover, Sexton is young – the rebuilding Jazz could decide that he’s part of their core.
At the same time, it’s probably better for the Jazz to rebuild from scratch. Right now, they ought to be prioritizing first-round picks above all else. They already received plenty in return for Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. Why not continue down that road?
After all, this team is clearly not constructed to make a playoff run. They have some talented players, but they don’t have a star player to lead them.

For the time being, they’re probably better off maximizing their chances of landing one in what could be a historic 2023 draft.
If they’re lucky, they’ll get a pleasant surprise when the league announces the order of the draft.
