Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal

They need to upgrade McGee. Having a rim protector at the 5 was always the right idea. Unfortunately, it simply turned out that McGee wasn’t the right rim protector. 

Perhaps that owes to age-related decline. That won be a problem for Poeltl. He’s merely 27 and looks every bit as strong as we expected he would heading into 2022-23. 

Meanwhile, Wood is thriving as a sixth man. Moving him to the starting lineup feels like the wrong move.

The Mavericks ought to stick with the rotational concept they entered the year with. All they need to do is upgrade Poeltl.
