Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
We’ve already told you why the Nets do this deal. They’re looking to get a stretch big to compliment Simmons.
After all, as a non-shooting lead ball-handler, he needs one. Four-out spacing is virtually a requirement in the NBA. With that in mind, Simmons could play the 5 – but if he’s going to continue running point, he needs a 5 who can shoot.
As of now, pick-and-roll actions featuring him and current Nets starter Nic Claxton look pretty congested. When neither player can shoot, it’s easy for the opposing big to simply drop and protect the rim. The Nets need to make those actions more dynamic to diversify their attack.
Moreover, Turner should help this team’s defense. Yes, Claxton is more switchable, but he’s not as strong of a rim protector.
