Los Angeles Lakers Receive: F/C Kristaps Porzingis, F Kyle Kuzma
Washington Wizards Receive: G Russell Westbrook, 2027 First-Round Pick (LAL), 2029 First-Round Pick (LAL)
Even now, it feels strange to suggest that a team would acquire Russell Westbrook with the intention of tanking.
It wasn’t long ago that, if you wanted to trade for Westbrook, you’d have to be the team sending out first-round picks – and more than two of them.
At that time, Westbrook was a perennial MVP candidate. Unfortunately, his reputation has taken a significant hit in recent years.
Ironically, the beginning of the end may have come during Westbrook’s time in Washington. When he and Bradley Beal both had strong statistical seasons, and the Wizards still finished with a losing record, a question began to emerge: what does this guy contribute to winning?

As a member of the Los Angeles Lakers last season, that question didn’t receive a lot of positive answers. The Lakers had a dreadful season. Moreover, they don’t own their own first-round pick in the upcoming draft. Tanking will not be an option.
Should this deal be one for the organization?
