Why The Los Angeles Clippers Do The Deal
Whether the Clippers have Morris Sr. or Robinson on their roster in 2022-23, neither is likely to command significant playing time.
After all, as they’re constructed, Morris Sr. is going to be behind Robert Covington and Nic Batum in the rotation. If you want to include his potential minutes as a small-ball five, add Ivica Zubac to the list. All told, it’s hard to see much playing time available for him.
At the same time, Robinson’s path to major minutes would be blocked by Norman Powell and Luke Kennard.
Powell is just a flat-out better player, whereas Kennard is a similarly effective floor spacer and a lesser defensive liability. With that in mind, the question is, where do the Clippers need insurance more?

The answer is in their guard rotation. That’s the primary reason the Clippers do this deal. Moreover, they’re compensated for taking on Robinson’s longer contract with a second-round pick.
Should the Heat give one up just to land Morris Sr.?
