Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
The Lakers aren’t the only team with problems, and they aren’t the only team with spacing problems either.
By now, the word is out on Ben Simmons. He can’t shoot threes, and he won’t. Sometimes, that reality clouds our judgement of him as a player. For all of his flaws, Simmons still brings a lot to the table.
Realistically, he’s one of the best defensive players in the NBA, and one of its best passers, too. Simmons is a highly impactful player, but he’s best maximized with a floor-spacing big man. Unfortunately, the Nets, as currently constructed, don’t roster one.
Kelly Olynyk would be a great addition in that regard. He doesn’t have to start: the Nets should prefer the more defensive-minded Nic Claxton in that capacity.

Still, the Nets could stagger the minutes between their Big 3 of Simmons, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant to ensure that Simmons spends as much time on the floor as possible with Olynyk. The ability to pair the two should outweigh the cost of Curry, especially with the similar Joe Harris back in the fold.
Is Curry worth the cost the Lakers are paying here?
