Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
Let’s call a spade a spade: the Utah Jazz are tanking.
That much is obvious. In fact, it’s made obvious by the deal they made to land Olynyk in the first place. They acquired him at the cost of Bojan Bogdanovic and Saben Lee – and then cut Lee. Why did they move one veteran for a less impactful one?
The answer is obvious. They want to lose games this year. With that in mind, they’ve got as much use as Olynyk as they did for Bogdanovic: none. Nobody should be surprised if Olynyk ends up in a different uniform this year.
This deal has the Jazz receiving a trio of young guards in exchange for him. Whether any of them factor into their long-term plan would remain to be seen.
