Why The Houston Rockets Do The Deal
Realistically, Johnson is a player with a higher ceiling and a lower floor than Martin.
Simply put, Martin is more scaleable. His superior three-point stoke means that, with proper guidance, he should at least be able to fill a 3-and-D role. By contrast, Johnson has not proven much as a floor spacer, either in college or during his 2021-22 rookie season.
With that said, Johnson has some skills that Martin doesn’t. Specifically, he’s got great handles and passing vision. As a big, quick wing, Johnson could be a two-way playmaker.
It’s easy to forget that before an unceremoniously short freshman season at Duke, Johnson was seen as a potential lottery pick in the 2021 draft.
