The situation between the Rockets and Martin Jr may be unfortunate. On the other hand, it may also have been unavoidable.
What were the Rockets supposed to do: turn down talent? Cater their roster to a second-round pick? Martin Jr. has shown promise throughout his career, but he hasn’t done nearly enough to merit having an NBA franchise plan around him.
With that said, we don’t blame Martin Jr. for being displeased, either. After all, he’s flashed intriguing potential. What more does he have to do to earn a role on one of the league’s worst teams?
Some conflicts are simply irreconcilable. Martin Jr. wants a larger role, and he’s earned one.
