After all, this team has no credible chance to win the championship in 2022-23. In fact, they’re more likely to finish near the bottom of the standings than the top. Luckily, the 2023 draft has the potential to be historic. The Pacers should solidify their odds of landing a high pick in it.
On the other hand, this deal isn’t strictly about the players the Pacers could get. It’s also about the players they’re getting. In particular, Patrick Williams is intriguing. Injuries have sold his career short so far, but when healthy, he’s flashed the potential to be one of the best 3-and-D wings in the NBA.
Meanwhile, Coby White has fallen short of expectations, but at 23, he still has time to live up to them. He’s a plus-sized combo guard with an array of offensive moves.
