Why The New Orleans Pelicans Do The Deal
Here, we’re assuming that the Pelicans view themselves as being in win-now mode. If they do, at some point, they may want to stop drafting prospects that would otherwise be heading to Hollywood.
This summer, the Pelicans took Dyson Daniels with the 7th overall pick, which came from the Lakers. He’s an intriguing young prospect with a high floor and ceiling. At the same time, do the Pelicans really need to add another one next summer?
We’d argue that the answer is no. Moreover, that’s especially true in light of how much Turner would add to this squad. In particular, he ought to be a perfect compliment to Zion Williamson.
After all, we know Williamson can get to the basket at will. Having Turner space the floor will only make that job easier for him. Meanwhile, his defensive limitations will be offset by Turner’s strong rim protection.

All told, the two are a perfect pairing – and just as significantly, Turner doesn’t take anything away from Brandon Ingram or CJ McCollum, either.
In that sense, he may be the perfect missing piece.
