Why The Orlando Magic Do The Deal
We already said the Magic were splitting the difference between competing and tanking here. Now, we’ll tell you how.
For what it’s worth, they’re trading the most talented player in this deal. Anthony is a gifted offensive point guard who can create shots for himself and others. At the same time, he may not be the best fit for this roster.
Largely, that’s due to his inconsistent three-point shooting. After all, the Magic already have two more talented young point guards who could be described similarly in Markelle Fultz and Jalen Suggs. Moreover, Banchero may be a forward, but he’s likely to have the same offensive profile. Someone has to space the floor for these guys.
Troy Murphy III feels like a strong candidate. In fact, he doesn’t do much besides space the floor and defend at a high rate.

He’s a better fit for this roster, even if he’s not as talented. Meanwhile, due to that same talent discrepancy, the Magic pick up a potentially valuable first-round pick here.
Should the Pelicans really part with it to add Anthony?
