Why The New Orleans Pelicans Do The Deal
Depending on who you ask, the Pelicans may or may not already have a starting point guard.
Last season, CJ McCollum filled that role. In fairness, he did so admirably. At the same time, he may be best suited to the off-ball role he occupied for most of his career.
By contrast, Anthony is the more natural point guard. His ability to handle the ball and get to the rack opens up opportunities for the rest of the Pelicans. Moreover, if they find that his score-first mindset doesn’t compliment the starters, they could use him as a sixth man.
Furthermore, the Pelicans already have their Murphy III. Herb Jones garnered All-Defence consideration as a rookie, and he’s a quality floor spacer as well.

For that reason, the Pelicans could use a point guard more than a 3-and-D wing. After all, they’ll be playing for as many wins as they can get in 2022-23.
