Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal
Some will protest that DeRozan isn’t the right co-star for Ball. Their position will come down to what many fit-related arguments come down to in the NBA: floor spacing.
To be fair, DeRozan is a generally poor floor spacer. That will limit his impact when Ball is controlling the offense. That is true. On the other hand, it doesn’t have to be a perfect fit in order to be a good one.
Having two elite playmakers will make the Hornets better in 2022-23. Meanwhile, DeRozan still draws defensive attention. His defender will chase him around screens wherever he goes.
You can’t sag off of DeRozan, even behind the three-point line: he’ll either shoot, or he’ll find a shot.
