Of course, the Knicks haven’t always been without stars. At some points in history, they had stars befitting the bright lights of the city. 

In the 1970s, Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, and Willis Reid were an early Big 3 for the Knicks. In fact, they won back-to-back championships. That would be the only time the Knicks would hoist a Larry O’Brien Trophy. 

With that said, they’ve come close since. With Patrick Ewing in the middle, how could they not? The Knicks advanced to the NBA Finals in 1999 but ultimately fell short to the San Antonio Spurs. 

Perhaps the beginning of the end was when they acquired Carmelo Anthony. They had one interesting season with the historically elite scorer, but he started to decline soon after.
