Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
This deal is less of a slam dunk for the Heat. In theory, they could miss Lowry.
In practice, they may not. After all, Lowry was abysmal in the 2021-22 playoffs. Yes, he was dealing with an injury, but at 36, one wonders how effective he’ll be for the remainder of his career.
Meanwhile, Hield isn’t here to replace Lowry. He’s here to replace Duncan Robinson. He also had a rough 2021-22 postseason. In fact, he was such a significant defensive liability that the Heat ultimately decided to remove him from their rotation.
Moreover, the Heat could start Max Struss in Lowry’s absence. He looked like a solid 3-and-D guard in a breakout season for the Heat last year.
