Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal
In a sense, this is an elaborate way for the Suns to replace Crowder. If you combined McDermott and Richardson, you’d get a player with something resembling his skillset.
McDermott replaces Crowder’s floor spacing: in fact, he surpasses it. Meanwhile, Richardson makes up a portion of his defensive prowess. Granted, he’s not on his level on that end, but he’s no slouch either. Moreover, Richardson offers a semblance of playmaking as well.
That may actually be of particular value to the Suns. As of now, they’re lacking playmaking within their second unit. Richardson helps in that aspect, and that could be enough for the Suns.
After all, they’re not lacking 3-and-D wings. Even in Crowder’s absence, they have Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and Torrey Craig to lean on.
