Why The Houston Rockets Do The Deal
This deal has the Rockets landed something of a poo-poo platter. Often, fans don’t like this type of package.
Moreover, it’s noticeably lacking a first-round pick. Frankly, neither of the contenders involved here are receiving enough to merit sending one in addition to what they’re giving up. We still think this is a good return for the Rockets.
It’s headlined by Matisse Thybulle. At 25, he’s already one of the best wing defenders in the NBA. His shooting is admittedly poor, but he actually shot a decent percentage from deep in his rookie season. If he can return to that form, he could be a long-term fixture in Space City.
Otherwise, Jaden Springer is an interesting flyer for the Rockets to take. He’s an impressive athlete, and at 19, he’s on the team’s timeline.

Generally speaking, this deal makes Houston younger and frees up more touches for their young core. That’s a win-win for a rebuilding team.
