Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
To be more specific, the Mavericks are short on secondary ball-handlers. Doncic may be the best on-ball playmaker in the NBA, but even he can’t shoulder a 100% usage rate.
With that in mind, Seth Curry won’t cure all that ails them. If he could, we wouldn’t be calling him a role player. Still, acquiring him would be a step in the right direction.
At least, at the cost of Reggie Bullock. Bullock is one of the most consistent 3-and-D wings in the NBA, but his capacity for making plays is extremely limited.
On the other hand, Curry is a competent ball-handler. He’ll mostly function as a spot-up shooter, but if the Mavericks need him to create a shot or set up a teammate, he’s at least capable.

Of course, that’s the added benefit of acquiring Curry – his elite floor-spacing. After all, the ball will remain in Doncic’s hands for the majority of the time. Any player they acquire should surround him with spacing, and Curry is one of the best shooters in the NBA.
Is Bullock worth enough to the Nets to give him up?
