Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
This is something of a medium risk, high reward gamble for the Jazz.
If Ball can’t return to regular NBA action, this trade will be regrettable in hindsight. After all, Ball is due $19.5 million in each of the next three seasons. That’s a bargain contract – unless he’s not playing, of course.
On the other hand, the Jazz are about to undergo a lengthy rebuilding project. Moreover, Salt Lake City is far from a free agency glamor market. The Jazz don’t need to get too greedy with their cap space: in all likelihood, they won’t be using it for a while anyway.
That’s why this is a risk worth taking for the Jazz. After all, if Ball gets back on track, he’ll be an excellent addition to this organization. At 24, he’s young enough to be this team’s point guard of the future.

The Jazz could take his rehab slow in 2022-23 – they’ll be trying to maximize their lottery odds anyway. With that said, if they hit on the draft, and bring Ball back for 2023-23, they could be a competitive young team before we know it.
Of course, this deal doesn’t make the Bulls any younger. Is it worth their time?
