Why The Sacramento Kings Do The Deal
There’s a reason we roped the Bulls into this deal: the Kings should have no interest in Poeltl.
After all, we already watched Sabonis fail to pair with a big man in Indiana alongside Myles Turner. Moreover, Turner’s inability to shoot makes him an even worse fit with Sabonis. Sabonis should play the 5, and we’re not sending a player to the Kings that bumps him down a position.
By contrast, Caruso will compliment Sabonis nicely. In fact, Caruso is the type of player who will compliment any star playmaker: he’s one of the best 3-and-D guards in the NBA.
In that respect, Caruso will be an immediate and direct upgrade over Mitchell. He may not have his upside as a playmaker, but he’s a much better floor spacer. Moreover, as good as Mitchell is on the defensive end, Caruso is better.

Some will suggest that the Kings aren’t good enough to justify this move. Perhaps they’re not. On the other hand, we know this team intends on operating like a playoff team in 2022-23, and if that’s the plan, this deal will make them better. Will it do the same for the Bulls?
