Why The New Orleans Pelicans Do The Deal

Of course, the Pelicans may not be affordable for very long either. If they made this deal, held be putting themselves in the position to sort out Poole’s next contract. 

That’s fine. The Pelicans’ books are still considerably cleaner than the Warriors’. That’s a result of them being younger. Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram are both on max rookie extensions, but those deals pale in comparison to the money the Warriors’ stars are making. 

Meanwhile, Poole may not be the perfect fit for this group, either. It’s worth noting that the Pelicans just extended CJ McCollum, who has a similar skill set. That, also, is fine. 

After all, the Pelicans would be getting the bulk of their playmaking from the front court. Williamson and Ingram can handle those responsibilities.

Flanking them with two sweet-shooting guards in the backcourt who can also create their own shot when needed should make the Pelicans one of the most lethal offensive teams in the NBA next season.
