Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal
Warriors fans won’t like this. We can anticipate their frustration before this piece even gets published. We understand.
After all, Poole’s breakout has been a joy for Warriors faithful to watch. With that said, we’ve already given you one reason the Warriors do this deal. When it comes time to extend Trey Murphy III, he’s not likely to command the same price as Poole.
On the other hand, Murphy III is still a useful player. He’s not as dynamic of a shotmaker as Poole, but he is a better defensive player, and an adequate floor-spacer as well.
Still, the Warriors are mainly interested in the next two Lakers picks here. Perhaps they’ll package them in another trade, but alternatively, they could add to what’s a surprisingly interesting young core. In all likelihood, it’ll depend on the team’s performance in 2022-23.
