Some players are clearly starting caliber, but lack the skills required to be a star. In all likelihood, we’re talking about 3-and-D wings or defensive bigs here. They impact the game too much to bury on the bench, but no team is going to run their offense through them, either.
On the other hand, there are even star players who aren’t on Doncic’s level. You can run an offense through those guys, but in all likelihood, it won’t be one of the NBA’s best attacks.
Bradley Beal is one such player. Beal is a remarkable scorer – in fact, he led the NBA in points per game in 2020-21.

On the other hand, he’s not a player that’s going to sniff a top 5 placement on any list ranking the league’s players. Even the top 10 is a stretch.
