Of course, when we say a team belongs to a player, maybe what we’re really saying is that the team could never, and would never, trade him. If that’s what we mean, the Celtics can’t be Jaylen Brown’s team:
We’ve seen his name in far too many trade rumors to make that claim.
Arguably, it started when James Harden hit the trade market to start 2020-21. Brown’s name regularly circulated as a potential target for the Houston Rockets. Of course, we know that trade didn’t occur.
Neither, for that matter, did one that sent Brown to the Brooklyn Nets this summer, as heavily as it was rumored.

Ultimately, Kevin Durant rescinded his trade request. With that said, by now, we wouldn’t blame Brown if he had grown tired of seeing his name in trade rumors. If he’s looking for a change of scenery, the Celtics may want to consider finding him one before the situation grows toxic.
