Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal

Firstly, we’ll be clear about one thing: the Knicks have no interest in Danny Green here.

That’s not a knock on Green. He’s in a contract year where he’s not expected to play much, if at all. What happens in his career next is anybody’s guess, but he’s simply not a trade target at the moment.

He is, on the other hand, a convenient salary matcher. With that in mind, the Knicks are flipping Randle for Brooks and a first-round pick here. Given their 2021-22 season, it feels like a good decision.

After all, Randle routinely looked displeased with teammates and coaches throughout the year. Surely, his decreased accuracy from three-point range played a role in any frustrations. Still, by now, it feels like a split may be suitable for both sides.

Landing a quality rotation player in exchange for him makes sense. That holds especially true given the Knicks’ never-ending search for a star – Brooks will complement whichever one they eventually do land.
