Eric Gordon has been linked to the Phoenix Suns for long enough. It’s time to make this marriage official.
Of course, this deal wouldn’t necessarily make sense for Phoenix if they could bank on Dario Saric. Unfortunately, they can’t. He’s coming off of a major injury and was never the most athletic player in the league in the first place (to put it politely).
Moreover, the Suns were fine without him in 2021-22 – fine to the tune of 64 wins. Meanwhile, Gordon could be exactly what they need. Part of his appeal is his portability. More than anything, the Suns need him as a sixth man. Gordon is more capable of carrying a second unit’s offense than anyone on this roster at the moment.
Having said that, he can play with the starters too. Gordon is also an elite floor-spacer. In essence, he’ll be taking what was supposed to have been Shamet’s role in the first place – and we can bank on him to perform more aptly in it.
