The traditional big man is, of course, a relic of the past. In the pace-and-space era of basketball, slow feet and an inability to shoot will sink a career.

Of course, when they said the center was dying, they took for granted that centers would always have slow feet, and never be able to shoot. 

The 2021-22 MVP Nikola Jokic says differently. So does Joel Embiid, his runner-up. All things considered, the center position is alive and well. On the other hand, surely the twin towers model is dead, right?

That depends. If both of your towers are quick-footed floor spacers, you might have the best front-court pairing in the NBA.
