On the other hand, perhaps it’s not fair to classify either Simmons or Porzingis as a disappointment.
Simmons is one of the most polarizing players in the NBA. His unwillingness to shoot threes has left many questioning his effectiveness as an NBA player. That might be an overreaction.
After all, Simmons is one of the best defensive players in the entire league. For that matter, he’s one of its best passers. Realistically, we’ve only ever seen Simmons in one situation. One way or another, we’ll see if he benefits from a change of scenery this summer.
As for Porzingis, the league has changed around him – in a hurry, no less.

When he entered the league, his ability to defend the rim and space the floor at once gave him such a rare skillset that he was dubbed “The Unicorn”. Flash forward to 2022, and a much higher number of players boast that skill set.
