Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal 

We don’t mean to pile on Westbrook. We’re only trying to talk about basketball objectively. We say that to say this: 

This deal probably doesn’t make the Heat better in 2022-23. 

In all actuality, they’re probably flipping four rotation players in exchange for a first-round pick here. On the other hand: the Heat could really use a first-round pick. As it stands, they’re painfully light on them. 

This offseason, that was an issue. The Heat were rumored to have an interest in both Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell this summer. In case you missed it, they didn’t land either. Realistically, they simply did not have the assets to.

That’s why this is a quality deal for the Heat. This Lakers pick is especially valuable given the team’s uncertain future outlook. The Heat should be interested in landing it – even if it means quitting on a large portion of their rotation.
