Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal
Of course, you don’t have to remind the Memphis Grizzlies of the perils of injuries in 2022. They’re well aware.
After all, the Grizzlies will begin the year without defensive anchor and all-around second-best player Jaren Jackson Jr. For that matter, he’s expected to miss most of the season – and who knows how he’ll look when he returns. With that in mind, any move the Grizzlies make should be contextualized in a two-year window.
After all, this team won 56 games and advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals in 2021-22. When they have their full roster, they’re bonafide contenders. Adding the right win-now players ahead of the 2023-24 season, when Jackson Jr. should be fully recovered, would be a smart decision.
Moreover, Clarkson would be a great addition to this squad. As it stands, Tyus Jones is their backup point guard, and so he should be. He’s one of the best backup floor generals in the league.

On the other hand, he’s not much of a shot creator. Clarkson would allow the Grizzlies to keep a dynamic offensive guard on the floor when Morant needs a breather.
Are the Jazz getting enough back for such a player here?
